I Messed Up Book Tag
A character appearance that you misread or imagined differently.
Definitely Perry from Under the Never Sky. You can’t be that dark and jaded and have blonde hair. Okay you totally can, but I did not imagine Perry as a blonde. In my mind he has dark hair!
A character name that you have been pronouncing wrong.
Cleoiana from Falling Kingdoms. I don’t know if I’ve been pronouncing it wrong or I’ve just been totally confused as to how it’s pronounced, oh, through five books now. Her nickname is Cleo. So…is her name Cleo-ee-ahna? I’m hung up on the four vowels in a row. I would usually look up the pronunciation by now, but now it’s kind of a fun game for me when I read these books and see her name like that and try to figure out what in the world that name is. I’ve been reading this series for two years now, there’s no going back on her name pronunciation now!
An overused trope that is your guilty pleasure.
Definitely the badass girl who can kill anyone and weighs 100lbs but can overpower a man 3x her weight with her stealth and by being one step ahead of him. She be fierce but also she can be emotional and needs a shoulder to cry on every now and then. Its SO overused but I still love it.
A cliche character type that you like better on screen than reading about.
Uh…I don’t know if there’s any character type that I like better on screen.
Have you ever not read or completed a required-reading book for school?
It wasn’t for school, it was for an internship I did and we had to read The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. The class was boring, the book was even worse. Did I mention that I am not type A, black and white, first born type person? There is no method to the crazy that is organizing my life and a Franklin Covey planner cannot save me! At the end of the class me and a few of my classmates got together for a bonfire and actually threw a few copies in. And I know, I know. I read Fahrenheit 451, I know you can never ever ever burn books and what was I thinking and I’m the devil and I’m leading society into a dystopian future where we have numbers and not names, whatever. I also threw in a few of my bras that night too so it wasn’t one of my brightest moments. I have no idea what kind of statement we were trying to make by burning bras. What can I say, I was compelled by the flames for madness!
Have you ever skipped (or wanted to) a chapter from the point of view of a character you weren’t interested in?
YES. OMG. YES. Falling Kingdoms is one where it’s told from 4 POVs and something suspenseful and crazy would happen with one POV and OH, next chapter lets just hop to something IN ANOTHER KINGDOM THAT NO ONE CARES ABOUT. I don’t skip these drastic changes in POV, but ugh it’s so frustrating and I definitely want to. Sometimes I glance ahead just to make sure everyone is okay and then go back haha.
Have you ever canceled social plans to read a book?
Yes. I have done this. But usually it was all falling thru a little anyway and I just gave the situation a little nudge so that I could stay home and read something amazing. The worst thing I’ve ever done was no call no show into work so that I could binge read Hunger Games for the first time. But! It was on a Saturday and my boss was out of town and it wasn’t “super” necessary. And my boss read the books three months later and told me he would’ve skipped work too. So boom. I work from home now and there are a few days that I reallocate all my work for the rest of the month so I can spend my son’s nap time reading instead of working. Perks of freelance babaaaaay.
